WOMEN'S INTERCLUB TENNIS LADDER RULES

  WOMEN'S INTERCLUB TENNIS LADDER RULES

Revised January 2014 - governing the women's doubles and singles interclub leagues

Overview

Oversight of the women's interclub tennis ladder will be provided by the Tennis Director and the Forest Hill Women's Interclub Tennis Committee (FHWITC).  Disputes will be resolved by the Tennis Director and FHWITC and the results binding.

The initial ladder and all subsequent ladders, as well as match assignments will be posted on the Forest Hill web site.  While email may be used as a communication vehicle, it is the responsibility of the players to review the web site for current information and direction regarding match play.

Players/Team Eligibility

To be eligible, players/teams must be members of the Forest Hill Swim & Tennis Club.  Prospective members on the wait list may play on an interclub team only in the event that all spots are not filled by a member in good standing.  Wait list players may be listed as subs at the discretion of the Tennis Director.

Ladder Matches

The existing ladder will be comprised of players from the previous two seasons (not including subs).  Doubles players from the previous two seasons may come into the existing ladder as a team or be split and come into the ladder with a new partner.

The Tennis Director & the FHWITC will set the ladder, establish challenge matches in each round and maintain the ladder until the final roster is determined.

There will be 2 rounds of ladder matches followed by an earned and return challenge period (see Challenge Matches and the Earned and Return Challenge Match section below)

The outcome of the 2 rounds of ladder matches and earned and return challenges will determine the final ladder.

The initial doubles ladder will be posted to the Forest Hill website no later than January 31st.  The singles ladder will commence in the June/July time frame.

If the #1 player/team from the previous season's ladder is undefeated and returns unchanged, the player/team retains the #1 ranking and is exempt from playing matches to determine the ladder.

Match results will impact the ladder as follows

If the challenger wins, the challenger assumes the position of the opponent and the opponent moves down one position on the ladder.

If the challenger loses, ladder positions are retained for one week.

Once the match is completed, the loser cannot independently re-challenge the winner.

Player Rules

Players are expected to act in good faith and make every attempt to accept and play matches.

All attempts should be made to play matches at Forest Hill, weather permitting.  If play is not able to take place outdoors, indoor time should be secured to ensure that matches are played within the allotted time frame.  (See indoor facilities below)

Once the ladder is posted, all matches must take place within the allotted time frame for that round and scores reported to the Tennis Director.  Players must abide by published deadlines.

The WINNER reports scores to the Tennis Director.  If the winner fails to do so, a forfeit will be recorded.

If a player/team is unable to fulfill a match obligation, the match is forfeit and a loss is recorded.  If a player/team forfeits more than one match, that player/team will be moved down one position on the ladder for each forfeit recorded.

If a player/team does not fulfill a match obligation due to injury, the forfeit will be recorded as a loss.  The player/team will be moved down one position on the ladder for each forfeit recorded due to injury.

The CHALLENGER must…

The OPPONENT must…

Contact the opponent and offer 5 potential match play dates including weekdays, week nights & weekends.  If the challenger fails to do so, a forfeit is recorded.

Accept one of the match dates or assume the responsibility for establishing a date within the allotted time frame for the round.  If the opponent fails to do so, a forfeit will be recorded.

Provide balls.  The challenger may elect to retain the balls used during the match.
Secure indoor court time if the match cannot be played outdoors during the allotted time frame of the round.

The Earned and Return Challenge Period

The Earned and Return Challenge Period will commence following the 2nd round of challenge matches.

Earned Challenge Matches

There will be (2) rounds of Earned challenge match play.

Any player/team that has won all of its challenge matches in the first two rounds has earned the opportunity to continue to challenge up.  All players/teams that will play during the Earned challenge match period will be contacted by the Tennis Director.

The player/team may challenge the next player/team on the ladder.  Matches must be scheduled and played within the allotted time for the round.  If a player/team does not report the scores of an earned challenge match within this time frame, they lose the opportunity to continue to challenge.

The player/team may play up to 2 earned challenges provided that player/team continues to win.  A 2nd Earned challenge match cannot be scheduled until the scores have been reported.  The Tennis Director will contact all players involved.

As soon as a loss is posted, the player/team may no longer challenge.

Return Challenge Match

There will be (1) round of Return challenge match play.

Any player/team that has had to default one match in rounds 1 & 2 due to injury will be granted one Return challenge match.  A player/team that has defaulted more than once due to injury may not participate in the Return challenge match period.

All players/teams that will play during the Return challenge period will be contacted by the Tennis Director.

This player/team may challenge at the ladder position held at the time the default occurred.  If the player/team wins, they are returned to this position on the ladder.  If the player/team loses, they remain at the current ladder position.

Matches must be completed and scores reported within the allotted time for the round.  If the player/team does not report a score within this time frame, they lose the opportunity to improve their ladder position.

Upon completion of the Challenge Matches and the Earned and Returned Challenges Matches the Tennis Director will post the final Interclub Roster on the Forest Hill web site.
